Dental Advice Being aware of your teeth and getting to know about your mouth and teeth with a regular visit to your dentist can prevent oral decay and gums disease. The care of your teeth in time can save you from high dental costs. Learn about the causes of the oral health problems and how to fight plaque, tartar, tooth decay, gum diseases, sensitivity. A good oral hygiene with good brushing and flossing with a proper toothbrush and toothpaste can help you start a healthy smile and see your dentist once every six months to keep your teeth free of plaque and tartar with proper cleaning instruments. Healthy eating diet is essential to healthy teeth and gums. It is also important to limit your intake of sweet foods like candy that will stick to your teeth and encourage bacterial growth that can lead to tooth decay. Vegetables, fruits and whole grain foods are great snacks because they are nutritious and won’t stick to your teeth. If you eat sweets at all, eat them after a meal when saliva levels are high and can fight the acids produced by sugar. Keeping teeth cavity free, the best way is to apply Sealant and surface protectant, as soon as the permanent teeth begin to erupt Dental sealants act as a barrier, protecting the teeth against decay-causing bacteria. This plastic resin bonds into the depressions and grooves (pits and fissures) of the chewing surfaces of back teeth (premolars and molars) where decay occurs most often. Sealants protect these vulnerable areas by "sealing out" plaque and food. Sealants are easy to apply, and it takes only a few minutes to seal each tooth. The teeth that will be sealed are cleaned. Then the chewing surfaces are roughened with an acid solution to help the sealant adhere to the tooth. The sealant is then 'painted' onto the tooth enamel, where it bonds directly to the tooth and hardens. A special curing light is used to help the sealant harden. During your regular dental visits, it will be necessary to check the condition of the sealants and reapply them when necessary.
An appliance worn over the teeth to prevent injury to the teeth, mouth or lips. There are generally two types: one that is softer and usually worn as a sports mouthguard, and one that is fabricated and customized to stabilize the teeth and protect against further damage as tooth grinding or treats temporomandibular disorders. A malocclusion, meaning "bad bite. are crowded teeth, extra teeth, missing teeth or jaws that are out of alignment. Most malocclusions are inherited, although some can be acquired or caused by accidents, early or late loss of baby teeth, or sucking of the thumb or fingers for a prolonged period of time. A custom treatment plan is outlined for each patient. The specific treatment appliance best suited to correct the patient's orthodontic problem is constructed.
A restoration fabricated by the dental laboratory that covers the entire tooth. Crowns can be ceramic, part ceramic and part metal, or all metal. They are used when the tooth is severely broken down and a more conservative alternative will not be sufficient for lasting protection.
Bridges help maintain the shape of your face, as well as alleviating the stress in your bite by replacing missing teeth. A bridge has crowns on each end with the replacement tooth attached between them. This appliance is cemented in place. The restoration can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain or a combination of these materials.
Missing tooth is the worst nightmare to think of. Many people have to get their tooth removed owing to extensive cavities, gum disease and injuries. And Dentists usually come up with three options to replace one or more tooth, such as a bridge, an implant, or a detachable partial denture. Though a bridge or implants are possibly more comfortable and appear better than a detachable partial denture, they cost amazingly high and perhaps every patient cannot afford them. A removable partial denture, or commonly called Dental Flipper, proves to be the best available choice in some cases. In fact, a dental flipper is a cheap and easy way to replace a missing tooth. It is frequently used as a temporary tooth replacement for the time you wait for a dental bridge. Made out of acrylic, dental flipper is essentially prepared by taking mouth impression through a plaster cast. This cast is then sent to a laboratory along with a prescribed shade of the tooth. An acrylic tooth that closely matches the prescribed shade is selected and attached to a pink palate which is shaped to fit the patient’s palate, whether upper or lower.
Veneers are thin, custom-made Covers, crafted of tooth-colored materials either composite resin or ceramic designed to cover the front side of teeth, to improve appearance and function. They're made by a dental technician, usually in a dental lab, working from a model.
Inlay; A dental restoration made outside of the oral cavity by the dental laboratory to correspond to the form of the prepared cavity, which is then luted into the tooth.
A projection fitted and cemented within the prepared root canal, serving to strengthen and retain restorative material and/or a crown restoration.
The application of a composite resin, a material that mimics the structure of natural tooth to improve their appearance by to changing its shape and/or color. And it is also the process by which composite resin and ceramic restorations are secured to the teeth.
An alloy used in direct dental restorations (silver fillings) to restore teeth that have dental decay.
It is the removal the diseased pulp, in the pulp chamber and root canal(s) of the tooth, then cleaned and sealed.
This bacterial disease attacks the supporting structures between the teeth and bone. Several factors can initiate the disease -- systemic conditions, lack of proper oral hygiene, and misaligned teeth. Periodontal disease is both preventable and treatable, but can lead to loss of supporting alveolar bone and tooth loss if ignored. There are several treatment methods that include Scaling which is the removal of plaque, calculus, and stain from teeth, and Root Planing a procedure designed to remove microbial flora, bacterial toxins, calculus, and diseased cementum or dentin on the root surfaces and in the pocket.
The process or act of removing a tooth or tooth parts.
A removable bridge is a prosthetic replacement of one or more missing teeth that can be removed by the patient. They usually consist of replacement teeth attached to pink or gum-colored plastic bases, which are connected by metal framework. Removable partial dentures attach to your natural teeth with metal clasps.
An artificial substitute for natural teeth and adjacent tissues. Dentures can be made to closely resemble your natural teeth so that little change in appearance will be noticeable. Dentures may even improve the look of your smile and help fill out the appearance of your face and profile.
A cosmetic dental procedure also known as "bleaching", that brightens and whitens stained, discolored, or dull teeth using a form of peroxide -- either carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide -- which is harmless when used under supervision.
